Skaha Bench

This small Sub Geographical region with great wineries is not to be overlooked. The region runs for ten kilometres & there’s currently around 75 hectares of vines planted along the eastern shore of Lake Skaha.  Although small, Skaha bench is one to watch in the valley & already has a couple of veteran award winning wineries within its boundary. The soil called Olhausen is a key component to its reputation, the vines & their grapes thrive in it. Although the soil exists throughout the valley, it is found most prominently here in Skaha & was left behind by glaciers over 12,000 years ago. With a frost-free growing season and long warm days with great aspect, the grapes are allowed to develop fully, with cool air running down gullies from high elevation at night helping to retain good acidity. It’s most predominant grapes are Chardonnay, Merlot & 3 of the Pinot's (blanc/gris/noir).
